PetValu has raised over $23 million in donation funds since 2010 for their charity program Companions for Change, Canada wide. And 3.5 million of those dollars went towards local rescues in Regina.
PetValu is dedicated to raising donations for local and nationwide rescues. Majority of the financial donations go towards Companion for Change which is a charity program that goes across Canada to provide help to all recues located near a PetValu.
“Working with the company for nine years, our Paw Month event is probably one of our biggest.” Said Regina PetValu Manager, Amanda Lisi. “Last year, my store raised $102,000 in product for pets in the community.”
The Regina PetValu on Prince of Whales Drive, has different charity events take place every year. Their Pet Appreciation Month takes place in June and raises the most donations. The Thanks-For-Giving event takes place in October and November. The Companions for Change event takes place in October as well. And then the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides does provincial dog walk fundraisers. Including a fun smaller event is the Calendar Charity event, this is where people’s pets will be the face of a month and the calendars are sold as a donation for any price.
The Regina Humane Society is a non-profit that runs a pet-fostering program, offers pet care and pet-sitting courses, has a spay-neuter clinic, and provides shelter for pets as well as adoptions.
PetValu is considered as one of the biggest donors towards the Regina Humane Society. Through the Companions for Change program PetValu was able to exclusively sponsor and support the construction of the Regina Humane Society’s Animal Community Centre.
The support itself was aimed to specifically build a better facility to provide help to homeless, or abused animals in the local Regina community.
As well as doing other small local events like holiday photo booths for Halloween or pictures with Santa for Christmas. Even sometimes having a pet bakery sale or raffle sales for pet gift baskets for owners.
The Regina PetValu works with local rescues like Bright Eyes Dog Rescue, Rebel Cat Rescue, Regina Humane Society, and Angels of Hope.
“We are donating and raising donations every day.” Said Lisi. “So, it doesn’t stop really.”
PetValu also helps out with certain local provincial rescues like Rebel Cats by temporarily letting a cat have residence inside the store until it gets adopted. Including holding adoption events.
As well as Angels of Hope, by letting them hold adoption days and giving over donated products like food, toys, leashes, beds etc. that would be useful to the rescue.
Every PetValu store is big on donation events and keep up with constant fundraising daily. However, some stores in Saskatchewan will accept cash donations, but majority prefer to have product donations instead.
“We don’t like to take cash donations,” Said Lisi, “it’s how our calendar events and everything is tracked that way.”
