Despite the cold weather on Friday afternoon, Grey Cup fans did not let that stop them from celebrating the festivities.

The REAL District is hosting the 2022 Grey Cup festival in Regina. People from all over Canada have come to cheer for their chosen teams.

“We came all the way from Surrey to cheer for the B.C Lions. The Grey Cup is one of the biggest parties out there, we are having so much fun.” A fan named Troy Davies said.

Troy and his partner Kim go every year to the Grey Cup festival with a group of friends. They wear articles of clothing made from flags of their team to show support.

The festivities are both outside and inside the REAL District. Outside contains live music, activities, and games, along with free hot chocolate and coffee provided by Tim Hortons, along with a fireplace to keep people warm.

“There are so many bands that play in a day. This is only half of it, there is so much more activities to see inside.” Said Kelly Hold, a volunteer at the Grey Cup Festival.

Inside the exhibition center, hundreds of fans cheer through the hallways. Many of them are partaking in the live bands that are in one of the many party rooms. The public will also have a chance to join in a competition of Smash Bro’s Ultimate in the arena for a chance to win $50,000.

The last time Regina hosted the Grey Cup Festival was in 2013. Since then, some significant changes have been made to the festival grounds.

“We decided to make some changes to the festival activities because we wanted to make things more family-friendly and entertaining.” Said Dylan Qiu, another volunteer at the Grey Cup festival.

SaskPower Family Fair was one of the operations providing large inflatables such as obstacles and bouncy castles for kids. There was also an interactive youth football event, where competitors could show off their skill assets.

There was a combination of indigenous artifacts and activities people of all ages could be a part of. Playpens for kids, face painting, and food booths were also accessible.

Though getting access to most activities does not require money there are some rooms that require a purchase of a ticket.

CFLAA legends luncheon will have its own event where a meal along with a silent auction will happen to raise money for a fundraiser.

Tickets are also required for Team Party Rooms. These are rooms for each team playing where an individual must be 19 or older to enter. These will run until Saturday at 1 a.m.

Information on what activities are happening each day can be found on the Grey Cup Festival app. This app will provide information on the event, day, and time that the activity is happening.

The festival started on Tuesday and will continue until Saturday.  The Grey Cup will be held at Mosaic Stadium right across from the REAL District on Sunday, November 20th, at 6 p.m. ET.
