Comedic Legend John Cleese is taking his 2022 tour titled “An Evening of Exceptional silliness,” to Regina Saskatchewan

The organizers at Conexus Art Centre came to the agreement that Cleese would visit Friday, May 13, 2022. This event would take place at the Capital Auto theatre inside the venue

No comment was made by either Conexus or John Cleese regarding the scheduled event

This is not the first appearance for Cleese has performed in Regina as in 2019 he made a stop as part of the “why there is no hope” tour.

Cleese is best known for being a founder of the legendary group Monty Python, a legendary group from the 60s and 70s most commonly known for the TV series “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” as well as the movie “Monty Python and the holy grail.”

“I do remember Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” said Estevan-based photographer Wanda Harron, “such a funny movie. That old British humor is so good.”

After Monty Python Cleese would appear in a variety of films, ranging from portraying Q in the Bond movie “The World is not enough,” to Nearly Headless Nick, in the Harry Potter movie franchise.

“Even if you don’t think you know who he is,” said Regina Chief of tourism and Visitor Growth expert Chelsea Galloway, “you would sit down and go, oh, I know who this guy is.”

Cleese’s work has gotten him recognition over the years by the Film Critiques. He won the Emmy award for most outstanding guest in a comedy series in his 1987 role for “Cheers.”

Cleese also was nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay in “A Fish called Wanda.”

“I think anybody with a big name that we can book for in Regina is a great opportunity for our city,” said Chelsea Galloway.

Cleese has made an attempt in recent tours to his shows towards critiquing political leaders around the globe.

In an interview with CBC host, Ali Hassan in 2019 Cleese stated “I was much more cautious when I was younger because I made the mistake of wanting everyone to like me.”

“I want the people in charge to be good, decent people,” Cleese continued in the interview with Hassan.

Cleese has made controversial statements through the years. One such incident was his cancellation of an event at Cambridge due to public outrage. The anger of the public was directed at a past Hitler impersonation he had done from “Monty Python”.

“I am blacklisting myself before someone else does,” said Cleese in a tweet regarding the incident.

This Cambridge controversy took place only months after Cleese was accused of transphobia.

“Deep down, I want to be a Cambodian policewoman,” said Cleese in another one of his tweets, “Is that allowed, or am I being unrealistic.”

Tickets for the show are already available with prices ranging from $85.50 – $143.00. Attendees will be eligible for the pre-show dinner which takes place at 6:00 PM that evening.
