Frost Festival Removes GLOW Leaving Residents Disappointed

Regina Frost Festival Set to Dazzle with Winter Wonders

REGINA — The City of Regina is gearing up for its annual Frost Festival, a weeklong celebration of winter that promises to transform the city into a frosty wonderland.

However, one of the festival’s most popular attractions—GLOW—will not be happening this year. The absence of the light show has left many residents disappointed.

“I thought Glow was one of the more notable parts of Frost in the past, so hearing that it won’t be there this year is unfortunate,” said Regina resident Xander LeClaire. “It was one of the cooler parts of Frost fest, so it does feel like a big part of it is gone.”

When reaching out to coordinators, they were unable to provide an explanation for why GLOW, the only indoor attraction that kept families warm, was removed this year.

From Friday, Jan. 27 to Sunday, Feb. 4, the event features outdoor activities, art installations and family-friendly entertainment at various locations across the city.

This year’s festival will be split into only three themed zones: Frost Downtown, Frost Wascana and Frost Warehouse District. Each zone will offer unique attractions and activities.

Frost Downtown will offer multiple events to choose from over the course of the four-day event. Enjoy live painting, skating, street curling and the debut of The Grind, a snowboarding competition.

Highlights include an artisan market, a family dance party, films and an AR exhibition by University of Regina creative technologies students. Warm up at the hot chocolate lodge and catch a spectacular firework display in Victoria Park on Feb. 1 at 9 p.m.

Frost Wascana is packed with activities the whole family will enjoy. Experience a fascinating hide tanning demonstration, the thrill of dogsledding or the charm of horse-drawn wagon rides.

Take a spin on the skating rink, climb and play on a massive snow pile designed for all ages and visit the petting zoo to meet some friendly animals.

The Frost Warehouse District has transformed into a vibrant hub this year, catering primarily to adults. Visitors can immerse themselves in an array of activities, including an energetic dance competition and a mid-winter Celtic festival featuring live performances.

For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the district’s bars and pubs offer a selection of Frost-themed drinks, perfect for savoring the winter vibes.

With temperatures expected to hover around -15 C during the festival, you can rest assured that heated tents and fire pits will be available in all zones, offering a warm retreat from the cold.

“Even though it will be cold, I am excited,” Joshua Delgado, a Regina resident who was born in the Philippines, said. “I am from the Philippines, so I am not used to winter. I never knew what I could do in Winter, so this event helps me to enjoy the cold.”
