Regina Christian School students are creating t-shirts to support the Ukrainian army because they feel it is important to raise awareness about the Ukrainian crisis.
News about the war in Ukraine that is unfolding as a result of a Russian invasion is visible across all social networks. Even high school students are familiar with the Ukrainian crisis.
“I think as a Christian school we definitely need to help out with that,” said Sara Price, a grade 12 student.
The teacher, Laine McLaren, noted that the idea of creating t-shirts for the fundraiser was proposed by students. The students also created the design.
“We finalized our designs last week,” said Price. “So, one of [the designs] is going to be a half sunflower coming out from the pot. And it will have a logo on it. We will have another one for the boys or people who don’t like the cursive design.”
“Our Ukrainian collection will be in blue and yellow colours,” said Price. These colours represent the Ukrainian flag.
The school plans to dedicate a whole week to supporting Ukraine. The t-shirt fundraiser is just one of the events that the school is holding.
“We are going to have a spirit day, like a blue and yellow day,” said Price. “And then we are going to have a bake sale … so we can raise more money.”
Students also planning to sell t-shirts at the Cornwall Centre and on social platforms. Also, they are going to create an information post about the fundraiser on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok.
“We will all make a generalized post on our own Instagram’s pages to make sure that the messages getting to others,” said Price.
“We have students here that are from Ukraine, and it didn’t sit right with me if we didn’t do anything to show our support,” said Price. “It didn’t feel right.”
All money from the sale of the t-shirts will be sent to help Ukrainians. The school still looking for an organization to help them get the money to Ukrainians that need help.

“We have some knowledge, and we are looking for different people who sent money to Ukraine to make sure we are doing a right thing and not just sending money to random places,” said Price.
The school plans to sell t-shirts for $25 each and donate 100 per cent of the profits to help Ukrainians.
Many people across Canada make different events to financially help Ukrainians. Some students from University of Regina sell stickers with Ukrainian logo. Money from the sold stickers will also be sent for help. People created clothing lines with Ukrainian symbols in Alberta to help raise money for the Red Cross.
“We definitely need to spread awareness because I feel like it can end up a bigger problem if no one talks about,” said Price.
